This story shares my personal experience of exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Skardu and its surrounding valleys.
Last month, I finally set off on a road trip from Karachi to the spectacular Skardu Valley—a journey I had been looking forward to for a long time. After a long drive, we spent our first night in Kaghan to rest before continuing our adventure
Early the next morning, we resumed our journey toward Skardu. The drive took around 9 hours, passing through some of Pakistan’s most scenic mountain roads. We stopped at Besal for breakfast and later took a memorable break at the famous Babusar Top, where the cool mountain breeze and panoramic views made the stop unforgettable.
Once we reached Skardu, we explored the stunning Kharmang Valley, known for its peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty. We also visited the magnificent Khamosh Waterfall, the breathtaking Manthokha Waterfall, and the unique Sarfaranga Cold Desert, where golden sand dunes meet snow-covered mountains—an incredible sight you rarely see anywhere else.
The most unforgettable part of my trip was the hike to Maraur Rock. It was physically challenging, but every step was worth it. Reaching the top and witnessing the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains gave me a true sense of achievement and made it the highlight of my entire journey.
No trip to Skardu is complete without visiting Deosai National Park. We spent a peaceful night in a hut at Domel, surrounded by nature and complete silence. Early the next morning, we headed toward the beautiful Rainbow Lake. Watching the sunrise over the vast plains of Deosai and seeing the crystal-clear lake was an experience I’ll never forget.
